Raised in Westchester County, New York and later obtained his Ph.D. in Genetics from Oxford University. Became affiliated with the CIA through Agent Moira MacTaggert soon after his graduation and was recruited into the government's new, secret mutant division. Located and trained other mutants alongside Erik Lehnsherr. Part of the mutant team that neutralized Sebastian Shaw (alias: Dr. Klaus Schmidt) and halted his plan to start a nuclear war between the United States of America and the Soviet Union. Received a back injury from the mission that left both legs paralyzed.
