Some leadership capability. ✖ BACKGROUND: A native of Tokyo, Kaneki Ken was a studious and otherwise unremarkable student of Japanese Literature at Tokyo's Kamii University before a brutal encounter with a ghoul and subsequent emergency transplant surgery had him physically altered from a human being to an artificial half-ghoul. Adrift between two disparate natures, Kaneki struggled to understand his place in the world for several months. His softer, pacifist nature was challenged and ultimately broken after an internment with a ghoul group called Aogiri Tree. Afterwards, he disappeared from his human life at the university and dove into his life as a ghoul; he became much more capricious afterwards, willing to go to lengths of extreme violence to secure what he believed was a peaceful future. ✖ CHARACTER ASSESSMENT: Dichotomous, oftentimes unpredictable. Kaneki's intrinsic nature is one of gentleness and passivity, and for the most part he approaches people with compassion and understanding. The onset of his ghoul nature and dealings with other ghouls have made him wary in addition, however, and should one come to threaten either Kaneki's peace or that of those he has taken it on to himself to protect, he can become completely cruel and ruthless in an instant. Very gray morality. Also highly academic, intelligent, analytical—capable of processing great amounts of information and applying them to real-world situations.
