As of 1863 Japan, the Tokugawa era is nearing its conclusion, and the general uncertainty of the land is further aggravated by the introduction of western foreigners to their ports. At one time, Mozu and her comrades were members of the White Lotus, a group formed by the leader of Byakushin village, Rugi. Their mission was to eradicate all foreigners and their negotiators. Since Rugi's betrayal, the group has changed their allegiance, and they are now enlisted in the Mimawari-gumi, Aizu subdivision Byakuren-tai. While brothers Shotarou and Gentarou pursue bushido, Mozu follows loyally as their one and only kunoichi. ✖ CHARACTER ASSESSMENT: Unusually candid for a woman of her time. Displays confidence, physical ability, and intelligence, and her loyalty to her leader Shotarou is steadfast. This is in contrast to her overall sense of political conviction, which is less emphatic, especially after Rugi's betrayal.
